Thank you for visiting our campaign website.

Serving on the Miami-Dade County School Board has been a great privilege for me. There is no task more important for our community than ensuring that all of our children have the opportunity to receive a quality education. I am very appreciative of the opportunity the residents of District 7 have afforded me and for their trust and confidence.

I am running for reelection to continue working for the betterment of our public schools, to make sure taxpayer dollars are being spent wisely, and to continue fighting for the causes that unite us.

In recent years we have made great progress. Student performance is up and last school year Miami-Dade County Public Schools achieved its highest graduation rate for high school seniors since records have been kept. We have slashed the school bureaucracy and, consequently, we are investing a greater share of public funds in the classroom. This has allowed us to avoid laying off many talented teachers and to get our schools through the deep economic recession. The School Board and the Administration are focused on the important task of educating our children and have avoided the unfortunate distractions of the past.

On the board I have fought for fiscal responsibility, transparency in our operations, and child safety. I have also advocated for affording our residents the opportunity to enact common sense tax reform that would reduce property taxes, increase our investment in education, and lead to private sector job creation.  I look forward to continue seeking new solutions for our challenges including the fact that teachers remain underpaid.
